SEMESTER REVIEW

Disclaimer: I am not a frequent online-lecture-goer. Instead, I tend to watch pre-recorded lectures instead, studying at my own pace and discussing questions with my friends. Therefore, I may give inaccurate reviews about lectures. I am simply sharing my personal experience, and you should hold your own judgement.

“While looking ahead, it is also important to look back on history.” Conducting an end of semester review is an excellent time to look at what went well and what did not, and what I want to focus on or change in the following semester. Enjoying each step along the way!

YEAR 3 SEM 1 (AY 22/23 Aug – Dec 2022)

Overview

An absolute WHIRLWIND!! An OVERWHELMING semester! I realized that I took on tooooo many commitments simultaneously, including research, a part-time internship, and aslo a heavy course load. I had little time to dedicate to my school courses, OFTEN resorting to last-minute studying just few days prior to exams or quizzes. The pressure intensified during finals, with late-night study sessions leaving me feeling unprepared and anxious as I entered the exam room — an entirely new experience compared to my first year. Despite investing considerable effort into other pursuits, the outcomes of my school courses were okayy, umm acceptable.

As for the upcoming semester, I want to improve the way I allocate my energy and strike a better balance between course work and research!

To Be Continued ......

YEAR 2 SEM 1 (AY 21/22 Aug – Dec 2021)

Overview

What an abysmal semester it has been! As I reflect on the past few months, it's clear that I struggled with managing my time effectively and faced emotional difficulties that had a negative impact on my grades. Stupid decision, Never gonna take on 8 core modules in a single semester again.

YEAR 2 SEM 2 (AY 21/22 Jan – May 2022)

Overview

It's felt like a lost year, leaving me with a sense of having lost my way. I frequently felt overwhelmed and struggled with intermittent productivity. I think the need for a hard reboot of my mindset, a chance to refresh myself and realign with my goals in the upcoming busy semester. I noticed a concerning pattern of leaving tasks until the last minute, despite being fully aware of the risks and pressures associated with such behavior. Procrastination, at its core, is an irrational cycle that I find myself caught in, possibly due to difficulties managing negative moods related to tasks.

Nevertheless, I am hopeful that in the next semester, I can break free from this cycle and approach my responsibilities promptly and effectively. Not pushing myself too hard and accepting the moments of bad moods. There are always bad things in life, but bad things always have a turnaround. Let sad be sad. Let pain be pain. Cry if you want to cry. After crying, live a good life. Allow sad waves to repeatedly hit the coast. Experience them bravely again and again. Try to take it easy and take time to get bored!

YEAR 1 SEM 2 (AY 20/21 Jan – May 2021)

Overview

In the blink of an eye, my first year at NTU has come to an end – I can’t say the year was always sunshine and rainbows, but it was a good year filled with new friends and experiences. This semester, in particular, proved to be more demanding due to heavier workloads and various distractions.

As I look forward to the next semester, I have set some goals for myself:

  • Maintain a balanced sleep schedule - Early to bed and early to rise.

  • Avoid procrastination and prioritize efficiency - When I play, play hard; when I work, don't play at all.

  • Practice English Every day.

Also, please hold a humble attitude to tutorial. It is a good time to make up for deficiency and review lessons. I am sooo excited for my second year! (Thank goodness, no more English courses!)

YEAR 1 SEM 1 (AY 20/21 Aug – Dec 2020)

Overview

Overall, this is an incredibly fulfilling semester. At the first several weeks, I was enthusiastic and at the stage of fumbling. Thus, I attended every tutorial and online lecture, trying to navigate my way through the courses. As time went on, I became more accustomed to NTU teaching style and discovered the proper learning method to each course. Tutorials and live lectures of some courses were tedious, so I had decided to skip them and to set aside time to acquite additional knowledge beyond the scope of my courses.

Looking ahead, I aim to improve my time mangement skills in the next semester. I can be more concentrated, thus having higher learning efficiency. I will attend tutorials seriously since they provide a valuable opportunity to review and reinforce the lessons. Just enjoy the journey!
